What exactly does A Star For You offer?

A symbolic dedication linked to a star in the SIMBAD astronomical catalogue. The person ordering chooses a name and a text, which are associated with that star and kept in the A Star For You Private Registry, together with the digital documents they receive. The value lies in the dedication and the document: it is a symbolic gesture, not an astronomical act.

Is the dedication recognised by astronomers?

The dedication is symbolic: the chosen name and text are recorded in the A Star For You Private Registry and linked by the system to a real catalogue star. In the catalogues the star continues to be known by its designation; the dedication lives in the A Star For You Private Registry and in the documents of the person who receives it.

How does the free tool “The sky on a date” work?

It reconstructs the starry background for a date, a place and a time, with 21:00 local time as the default: it takes an archive DSS2 photograph and orients it according to those parameters, on an ideal horizon. It is not a photograph taken that evening and does not simulate the Moon, planets, weather, light pollution or the shape of the land; for the same reason it does not establish whether a star was or will be visible to the naked eye, and we offer no guarantee of that kind. What does the person ordering see, and what stays private?

Read every included document with your words, the images and astronomical data of the star reserved for you. When you buy, you receive the approved documents, linked to that same star. The free sky tool works with a date, a place and a time and does not ask for any details of the person you want to remember. Personalised dedications are a separate matter: the name and text are handled with their own visibility settings and consents, so you decide what stays private and what can be visible.
